Renaissance Latino (could be subtitled, Italian-American artist or musician) is a true fusion of Rock and Latin, Italian, Mediterranean music and exemplifies the style of Rico Monaco Band. Rico’s grandparents all came from Campania province, San Bartololmeo In Galdo, Avellino, and Napoli. His Grandfather, Giuseppe Monaco was an Opera Singer who immigrated to New York City during WWI like millions of other Italians seeking the opportunities for his family in the USA. He did sing at The Metropolitan Opera House in NYC but his career was cut short due to injuries from his service in the American military in France during WWI.
The lyrics are based on the fact that the term “Latino” in the Americas used for music and culture from the Caribbean, Central America, South America, Spanish language. When reporters or fans in the Americas ask, “why does Rico Monaco play Latin music when he is not Latin?,” they are understandably mistaken. The Latin Culture was created in Lazio region of Italy in about 1600 BC and spread from there. The very important role Italy has played in art history especially during the RENAISSANCE, of the world but also MUSIC HISTORY is undeniable. Most musical terms are Italian words such as, Allegro, Concerto, Arpeggio, Staccato, Legato, etc. Classical music, Italian folk music, Opera, and modern artists have made a vital contribution to the music world. Rico Monaco being raised in Connecticut, New York City, and Florida has been an continues to be heavily influenced by his Italian Latin heritage. But his exposure to Jazz, Fusion, Latin, Caribbean music and culture has also strongly influenced his music. This led to his working with Tito Puente Jr. and his creating a unique blend of high powered American Rock and Latin music.
