#Santana is the epinomous debut studio album by American Latin rock band Santana lead by #carlossantana. It was released on August 22, 1969. Over half of the album’s length is composed of instrumental music, recorded by what was originally a purely free-form jam band. At the suggestion of manager Bill Graham, the band took to writing more conventional songs for more impact, but managed to retain the essence of improvisation in the music.
Released two weeks after the band’s historical performance at the #Woodstock festival, Santana’s debut album featured the hits Jingo and Evil Ways and a brilliant studio performance of Soul Sacrifice, the instrumental that forever immortalized the group in the movie that documented the festival. The album cover was as striking as the music and a perfect match to it, an artifact of the music and art scene in San Francisco in the late 1960s, created by #LeeConklin.
