Check out when I play Michael Jackson Rock With You on a broken piano! Love the high energy of the disco classic, and a good warm up especially when it was so cold. The piano had a very sticky key, so had to avoid it, although you might see when I deliberately play it whilst it was dead! Check out later when the key starts to free itself and then I just play that key to give it some exercise!
Public piano always have something “wrong” with them – that just makes them have their own character, and it is different everytime you go to play, even if it is the same piano. This is at London St Pancras Train Station, and this public piano is actually one of the better maintained and looked after pianos. It gets regularly tuned and repaired but of course, it does not help when they get abused – not just by drunks, or even kids who don’t know better (although children playing is not “abuse”. Definitely those (who should know better) that bang their feet on the piano does not help too!
