Wiplash – Adictos. Una sesión exclusiva para Vevo.
La historia del orígen de Wiplash tiene muchas similitudes con las de las bandas de rock ochentero que inspiran a los chicos, pero con un twist del siglo 21 cortesía de TikTok. Los chicos, desde diferentes partes de México, demostraban sus talentos en la plataforma durante la pandemia de COVID-19 en el 2020 hasta que un día conectaron y decidieron dar el paso hacia Ciudad de México para hacer la agrupación realidad.“Terminé de ver la película ‘The Dirt’ de Mötley Crüe, y dije: quiero tener una banda”, dijo Daniel Gal, el guitarrista de Wiplash, al Los Angeles Times. Buscando llenar una laguna en la escena del rock mexicano, los cuatro músicos decidieron crear música cercana al rock latinoamericano del principio de los 2000; una mezcla de punk, pop y rock con mucho delineador. “Somos ahorita la banda emergente que está dando voz a mi generación”, dijo Gal. “Queremos ser eso, la banda de nuestra generación así como lo fue Pxndx, Moderatto o Panteón Rococó”. Y lo logran con su más reciente disco ‘Narvarte’, donde relatan historias de amor, despecho, y angustia juvenil al ritmo de pop punk. Wiplash llegó hasta los estudios de Vevo en Los Ángeles para cantar “Prometimos” y “Adictos”, ambas de su nuevo disco.
Wiplash’s origin story has a lot of similarities with those of the 80s guitar heroes that inspire them, but with a 21st century twist courtesy of TikTok. Hailing from different parts of Mexico, the boys showcased their musical talents on the platform during the COVID-19 pandemic. One day, they all connected and decided to head to Mexico City to make the band a reality. “I finished watching the Mötley Crüe movie ‘The Dirt’ and I said: I want to have a band,” guitarist Daniel Gal once revealed. Looking to fill a void in the Mexican rock scene, the four musicians decided on a sound closer in spirit to early 2000s Latin American rock – a mixture of punk, pop, rock and a lot of black eyeliner. “Right now, we’re the emerging band that is giving a voice to my generation,” Gal said. “Just like Pxndx, Moderatto or Panteón Rococó were for theirs.” They achieved that with their most recent album ‘Narvarte,’ where stories of love, lust, heartbreak and teenage angst are soundtracked by glam riffs and punk attitude. Wiplash recently visited Vevo’s Los Angeles studio to perform “Prometimos” and “Adictos,” and they more than earned an open invite in the future.
